Spotlight on – Our Dementia Choir
Using the power of music to bring people together
At Mansfield Innovation Centre, we’re proud to support a diverse community of inspiring organisations. This month, we had the pleasure of speaking with Our Dementia Choir, a remarkable group using the power of music to bring people together and raise awareness of dementia.
To learn more about their work and the impact they’re making, we caught up with the team for a quick Q&A — here’s what they shared:
What does Our Dementia Choir do?
Our Dementia Choir, founded by Vicky McClure, brings together people living with dementia and their carers to sing in a supportive choir environment. The group uses music to improve wellbeing, boost confidence, and help trigger memories, while also reducing isolation by creating a strong community. Through rehearsals, performances and awareness campaigns, the choir highlights the positive impact music can have on people affected by dementia.
We’ve been given such a warm welcome by everyone we’ve met. Already, several businesses have approached us about volunteering with the charity, and we’ve also had conversations with a company about potentially using one of their employee benefits services. A member of our team has already attended one of the networking and training sessions, and connecting with businesses outside our usual sector is opening up all sorts of new possibilities.
The location was a real draw – the centre is easy to access and close to where many of our team and choir members live. The offices are modern, light and airy, and there’s a great sense of professionalism while still feeling welcoming and inclusive. And of course, Sarah’s café is a definite bonus!
Really impressed with how it all works so well, given the amount of different businesses based here. It’s warm and friendly with so many networking opportunities.
